Excerpt from ECES News:
Global spread of pollution-related disease that causes debilitating fibropapilloma tumors in sea turtles continues with the discovery of three severely affected green sea turtles in Japan within a five month period.
According to the Japan Times, the Sea Turtle Association of Japan is warning that a serious tumor-causing illness is spreading among the region's green sea turtles, after three cases of the disease have been found in Japan since the summer of 2003 in Okinawa, Shizuoka and Kochi prefectures. "It is the first time that serious cases have been found" in a series in a short period of time, said the Osaka-based group, which works for the protection of sea turtles.
